Borussia Moenchengladbach has slipped down the Bundesliga table in recent weeks and to make matters worse ahead of Saturday’s showdown with Bayern Munich, manager Daniel Farke might be without one of his rising talents.
Joe Scally is dealing with a calf issue ahead of the match, Farke confirmed Wednesday in a press conference. Scally isn’t the only player who could miss Saturday’s match, as forward Marcus Thuram is also dealing with his own calf injury, Farke also confirmed.
“We’ll have to wait and see for Marcus and Joe for the next few days, it will be a close race for both of them with regard to the game on Saturday,” said Farke: “However, things are looking a little better for Joe than for Tikus. We have to see.”
Scally, 20, has started in each of Gladbach’s last three league matches, giving him 19 total appearances in the Bundesliga this season. The U.S. men’s national team fullback has only missed one of Gladbach’s league matches this season, featuring heavily in Farke’s first season as manager.
Gladbach is sitting in 10th place, nine points out of the top-six, and also nine points clear of the relegation zone.
The German club has only won one of its last five league matches, most recently losing 4-1 to relegation-threatened Hertha Berlin. Scally’s absence for Saturday’s home showdown with Bayern would be a blow for Gladbach, which is seeking to extend its unbeaten run against the Bavarian giants to five matches across all competitions.
Scally has earned three caps with the USMNT and could be an option for Anthony Hudson’s squad for March’s Concacaf Nations League matches against Grenada and El Salvador.
